Easy Vegan Whole Wheat Crêpes (Oil-free), with chocolate spread, banana, kiwi, hemp seeds

Who else loves crepes? They are thin, soft and so delicious! There is a debate on whether pancakes are better but I like both equally. They are one of those things that I love to make on the weekend to make my breakfast extra special! And these whole wheat crepes are perfect just for that!

Crepes are thought of as hard to make but this recipe is super easy and requires very few ingredients. They are made using whole wheat flour and this creates a lovely texture that I personally love, as well as being rich in protein, fiber, and a variety of vitamins and minerals.

These crepes are vegan, so what about eggs? Turns out you don’t need eggs for crepes and we do not even need an egg replacement because they do not act as a binder or raising agent.

Ingredients needed for Vegan Whole Wheat Crêpes

Good news! this recipe is EASY, so you will need only 4 ingredients, that you will likely have in your pantry:

  • Whole wheat flour
  • Plant milk
  • Maple syrup
  • Salt

You will also need oil for spraying the pan to cook the crepes unless you have a really really good non-stick pan.

How to make these vegan and oil-free whole wheat crepes

The method is pretty simple, first mix the dry ingredients: flour and salt. Then add plant milk and maple syrup and mix with a whisk. The batter is ready!

Now get a flat plan, or like in my case, a pan made for crepes. Spray some oil in the pan or use a really good non stick pan (I would still put a little oil), then using a ladle, pour some 1/4 of the batter in the pan and spread it to the whole surface using the ladle using circular motions or tilt and swirl the pan.

Once the top of the crepes is dry and the edges are beginning to brown, flip it and cook for a few minutes more. Repeat for the rest and enjoy with your favoruite fillings!

Vegan Crepes Filling Ideas

I went for a classic filling: vegan chocolate spread! This is what I would always have as a kid and I think there is no better combination! I also added sliced banana, some kiwi and sprinkled some hemp seeds on top, it was truly delicious!

Some vegan crêpes toppings ideas:

  • Sugar and lemon
  • Peanut butter and jam
  • Vegan whipped cream, strawberries and chocolate syrup
  • Nut butter and fresh fruit
  • Caramelised apples, cinnamon, vegan yoghurt
